Robot vacuums have spent years bumping into chair legs and quietly pretending the corners do not exist. Dyson now thinks they should see, think, adapt, and identify whatever mysterious substance has dried onto the kitchen floor. The result is the new Dyson Nurovi robot vacuum range.
The name combines “Neural Intelligence” with Dyson’s latest vision system. There are three models: the R1 Nurovi Dry, R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry, and flagship R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV. In other words, you can choose between vacuuming, vacuuming and mopping, or commissioning a tiny domestic forensic investigator.
The R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV uses ultraviolet light, green illumination, and AI vision to recognise nearly 200 household substances and objects. Once it finds a stain, it repeatedly cleans the area until the stain is gone. That sounds useful, though perhaps slightly judgmental.
Its full-width microfiber roller continuously receives fresh water heated to 70°C (158°F) through a 12-point hydration system and cleans itself with every rotation. The roller can also extend 40 mm (1.6 inches) to reach room edges. Dry cleaning comes courtesy of 30,000 Pa of suction, while a cyclonic bagless dock empties, cleans, and recharges the robot.
Below it sits the R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry. Instead of the usual round mop pads that remain philosophically opposed to corners, it uses Reuleaux triangle pads. Their curved triangular shape lets them move smoothly while reaching into square corners. The dock washes them using water heated to 75°C (167°F), then dries them with 45°C (113°F) air.
Both the R2 and dry-only R1 use Dyson’s Twin-capture system. A brush bar sweeps up larger debris while the vacuum motor concentrates on fine dust. Acoustic piezo sensors detect dust levels and floor types, adjusting the cleaning behaviour accordingly. Extendable side brushes reach towards walls without flinging crumbs across the room or collecting everyone’s hair as a souvenir.
The MyDyson app handles mapping, room-specific cleaning modes, schedules, restricted areas, and progress reports. Dyson says image processing happens on the robot, with images neither stored on the machine nor uploaded to the cloud.
The R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV is coming soon with an unknown price in the UK. Folks at IFA would have heard something, but as far as we are concerned, if it isn’t listed in the UK or US, or anywhere for that matter, it is not official. As for the R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry, and the R1 Nurovi Dry, they are available for pre-order in the U.K. for £749.99 and £499.99, respectively.
For now, Dyson has revealed three robots capable of spotting stains, cleaning corners, and emptying themselves. Unfortunately, though, none has been trained to pick up the socks first. If you really need to do that, you have to look to Roborock, or perhaps engage the service of the microduck.
