Humanity has developed a strange habit of using far too much vehicle for very small jobs. Need to carry a toolbox across a resort? Fire up the pickup. Moving luggage through an airport? Better deploy a van. Heading three kilometers down the road alone? Naturally, you will need two tonnes of SUV and enough empty seats for a small family.
ENVO has another idea: stop using a giant vehicle for every little job—and stop designing a completely new small vehicle for every different job.
Its solution is the ENVO UPT, short for Utility Personal Transporter. Developed in Canada, the UPT is a compact four-wheel electric platform that can be reconfigured for personal, recreational, commercial, municipal, and industrial duties. It is less a single vehicle and more an electric box of LEGO Technic waiting to be given a purpose.
At the heart of the system is the ENVO UP20, a skateboard-style rolling platform containing the drivetrain, batteries, suspension, brakes, steering, controls, and mounting architecture. Different bodies, seats, cargo decks, equipment, and accessories can then be fitted on top. ENVO has already shown configurations including an electric ATV, four-wheel off-road scooter, side-by-side, snowplow, airport transporter, medical carrier, camera car, mobile workstation, luggage mover, microcar, golf cart, and industrial utility vehicle.

The idea brings together what ENVO calls modular mobility and rightsized mobility. Modularity means using one common platform to create several kinds of vehicle. Rightsizing means choosing only as much vehicle as the job requires. A maintenance worker travelling through a park probably does not need a road-going van, while an airport worker hauling luggage may need more than an e-bike. The UPT aims to occupy the useful space in between.
It is no glorified golf-cart chassis, either. ENVO lists four individually controlled in-wheel motors producing a combined 12 kW, or around 16 hp, with up to 640 Nm (472 lb-ft) of torque. The four-wheel-drive system supports traction control, regenerative braking, anti-lock braking, crawl mode, and even tank turns. Yes, the tiny electric workhorse can reportedly spin on the spot, which may be unnecessary for landscaping but excellent for making an entrance.
A modular battery system provides up to 5.5 kWh of capacity. Depending on the configuration, terrain, payload, and speed, ENVO claims a range of 100–200 km (62–124 miles) and a top speed of 50–60 km/h (31–37 mph). Expect the lower end of that range when hauling cargo across rough terrain rather than cruising along a flat paved road with nothing heavier than your lunch.
In its standard form, the platform can carry up to 250 kg (551 lbs) and tow as much as 350 kg (772 lbs). Its wheelbase can also be adjusted from 1,120 to 1,370 mm (44.1 to 53.9 inches), allowing the same basic machine to accommodate different layouts. Folded, it measures 1,650 x 1,000 x 520 mm (65 x 39.4 x 20.5 inches), so storing or transporting several units should be considerably easier than finding room for a fleet of utility trucks.
Owners and commercial upfitters can order the UPT as a complete vehicle, rolling platform, or kit, depending on the intended application. ENVO also says many components and attachments can be changed later, although turning your airport luggage carrier into a snowplow will require more mechanical competence than swapping phone cases.
Road legality is another matter. ENVO designed the platform with North American LSV and NEV classes, along with European L6e and L7e categories, in mind. However, legal use depends on the final configuration and local regulations. A UPT approved for a private worksite or farm is not automatically free to perform tank turns down Main Street.
ENVO officially opened preorders for the UPT platform in July 2026. Serial production is scheduled to begin in late autumn 2026, with initial customer deliveries targeted for early spring 2027 on a first-come, first-served basis. Earlier dates in initial roadmap discussions reflected early prototype and testing phases rather than full commercial delivery.
The base platform is listed at US$9,048.50 before optional seats, bodies, accessories, customization, and shipping. That is not pocket change, but neither is buying an ATV, snowplow, utility cart, and airport luggage transporter separately.
