Many characters have graced the topper of the Austrian mechanical candy dispensers, PEZ. You should not be surprised to find C-3PO, Chewbecca, Hello Kitty and the likes on it, but the destructive marshmallow monster, Stay Puft, from the original Ghostbusters movie? Probably not, but here it is anyways, the Funko Pop! PEZ Ghostbusters Stay Puft Dispenser.
But if we really think about it, having the memorable Stay Puft from the hit 80s sci-fi horror movie as the topper couldn’t be more fitting for this still surviving, endearing toy/candy combo. The candy dispenser is as retro as the character itself, even though PEZ (it was invented way back in 1927) is way older Ghostbusters.
It feels especially nostalgic to a person who grew up in the 80s watching Dan Aykroyd kicking giant marshmallow man’s ass and drooling over eye-catching PEZ lined up on the shelves of convenience stores. Though, in those days we did not have Stay Puft as PEZ topper. At least, I don’t recall seeing one. Fun fact: PEZ is actually an abbreviation of PfeffErminZ, German for peppermint.
