There was a Barbiecore craze following the release of the live-action Barbie movie last year. But the movie has led to more than just the rise of playful outfits; it also attracted an unlikely brand into the pink: Heinz. Last year, Heinz UK asked on X if they should make the “dream team” of Heinz Tomato Kenchup and Heinz Classic Barbiecue a reality.
Apparently, there was demand, so now, Heinz is joining hands with Mattel to make it real but only for the Heinz Classic Barbiecue sauce. Why no Ken? Possibly another time or never. Let’s not kid ourselves. While “Kenchup” is clever, it doesn’t sound as sleek as “Barbiecue.”
Anyhoo, the Heinz Classic BarbieCUE, as it is branded now, is a pink (yes, pink!) vegan mayo with BBQ sauce that has just been launched in the U.K. and Spain markets on April 15, 2024.
Destined to spruce up the taste of your crisp salads and burgers, the Heinz Classic BarbieCUE Mayo Barbecue Sauce is described as the “smoky ‘sauce of the season’,” featuring beetroot extract which allows it to achieve the signature pink hue.
Aesthetically, the Heinz Classic BarbieCUE Mayo Barbecue Sauce packaging adopts the iconic Heinz bottle with familiar labels on the front and back.
However, the front has been revamped to match the pink sauce, featuring a pink border, the Heinz Classic branding, along with the sauce name featuring Barbie branding—in Barbie pink, of course—paired with the word “CUE” in caps, and in regular Heinz text to form the brand ‘BarbieCUE’.
And below it is the pink silhouette of the world’s most famous doll. This kind of makes this sauce a collectible too. Well, collectible probably after you have finished the sauce anyways.
The Heinz Classic BarbieCUE Mayo Barbecue Sauce comes in a 415 ml bottle. Heinz UK has listed a limited run of 5,000 bottles on Heinztohome.co.uk for £2.90 (about US$3.61) per bottle.
But if you prefer to pick it up offline, a limited run will be available in Tesco stores across the U.K. starting April 17, 2024, followed by Ocado and other retailers from May with an RRP of £3.39 (around US$4.21).
