Huawei MateBook Pro S Laptop
Huawei’s MateBook Pro S is an exceptionally light 14.2-inch laptop weighing as little as 798 g. It pairs a 3.1K 120Hz OLED touchscreen with the Kirin XE90 processor, HarmonyOS 6.1, and an optional privacy display.

I have wanted to feature the Huawei MateBook Pro S since its announcement in August, but I held back because details were scarce. Although it was announced last month, Huawei only recently listed it on its consumer website. So, here we are, finally able to get to the real meat.

The Huawei MateBook Pro S has one feature that folks on the move will appreciate: lightness. It is not the world’s lightest laptop, but it is exceptionally light for a 14-inch machine. It tips the scales at just 798g (1.76 lbs). Compared with my monstrous 1.60 kg (3.5 lbs) M2 Pro MacBook Pro, it practically qualifies as carry-on air.

Even the Collector’s Edition—and yes, it’s a thing—weighs only 825g (1.82 lbs). Huawei achieved this feat using magnesium-lithium and magnesium-aluminum alloys, a compact three-section motherboard, and a mortise-and-tenon structure that reduces reliance on screws. Despite weighing about as much as a respectable lunch, it can still be opened with one hand.

The 14.2-inch flexible OLED touchscreen has a 3:2 aspect ratio, 3,120 × 2,080 resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, P3 color support, and up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness. Selected versions add Huawei’s Lingdun privacy display, which prevents people beside you from reading the screen. Finally, a laptop that understands the stranger in seat 14B does not need to see your spreadsheet.

Inside is Huawei’s Kirin XE90 processor, supported by 24 GB or 32 GB of memory and either 512 GB or 1 TB of storage. The laptop runs HarmonyOS 6.1, complete with Celia AI tools, cross-device file sharing, meeting transcription, and handwriting support through the pressure-sensitive touchpad.

You also get two USB-C ports, four speakers, six microphones, front and rear 1080p cameras, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and a 54 Wh battery. Huawei claims up to 18 hours of video playback, while the 66W charger can also reverse-charge compatible phones and tablets. Your laptop may weigh less than your water bottle, but it can still rescue your phone.

The Huawei MateBook Pro S is available in China from 7,999 yuan [CH] (~US$1,120). The privacy-screen model starts at 10,299 yuan, while the 32GB/1TB Collector’s Edition costs 14,999 yuan (~US$2,100). International availability has not been announced.
