Hyundai Pony Coupe Concept

There was a super important, milestone vehicle that we failed to mention in May 2023. Before the reveal of the super cool, super sporty Hyundai N Vision 74, Hyundai brought one of its early concepts to life, again as a concept 50 years after its debut.

Back in May, Hyundai revealed the recreated Pony Coupe Concept – almost half a century after its debut at the 1974 Turin Motor Show. The vehicle, rebuilt by original designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, has been faithfully restored to precise specifications and original materials.

It is an iconic part of Hyundai’s design heritage, representing a blend of unique aesthetics and a minimalist interior. While the original concept never made it into commercial production, it has left a lasting legacy in the design language of Hyundai’s recent models.

Hyundai showcased the concept at its Hyundai Reunion event in Lake Como, Italy.

But the Pony Coupe Concept ain’t an EV as one might have expected; it is an FR – front-engined, rear-wheel drive vehicle powered by a 1,238 cc 4-cylinder engine with a whopping 82 horsepower at its disposal. Nothing much. It is just cool to see the design is still relevant today. It still looks pretty futuristic almost half a century on which is a testament to Giorgetto Giugiaro’s vision.
