Initial D 30th Anniversary pure gold AE86 Trueno commemorative coin

Now, Initial D is not something you would normally associate with investment products like gold or silver coins. This is a series built on tire smoke, tofu deliveries, and the sound of an AE86 being pushed far harder than common sense allows. But given that this group of people is probably working adults with actual commitments, investing in gold or silver sounds like a more sane decision, provided they are willing to redirect the dough from the VeilSide aero kit.

To mark the 30th anniversary of Initial D, KARATZ Inc. has teamed up with the franchise to release two limited commemorative coins, a pure gold coin and a pure silver coin [JP]. Both center on Takumi Fujiwara’s Toyota AE86 Trueno, rendered with surprising seriousness for something inspired by a downhill racing manga.

The pure gold version is struck in K24 gold and limited to just 86 pieces, a number chosen with obvious affection for the Hachi-Roku. Weighing approximately 10 grams, the coin measures about 25 millimeters in diameter and 1.3 millimeters thick. The front captures the AE86 mid-charge, complete with forward rake and carefully engraved tire angle. The reverse features the Initial D 30th Anniversary logo, a serial number, and an official Japanese mint quality mark. Each coin comes housed in a paulownia wood box with a dedicated display stand.

For those who prefer restraint over full send, there is also a pure silver version finished with gold plating. This one weighs around 6 grams, shares the same 25 millimeter diameter and 1.3 millimeter thickness, and is limited to 860 pieces. It also includes a serial number and display stand, making it no less collectible, just easier to explain to your accountant.

Both coins are less about flipping for profit and more about freezing a moment in time. The AE86 has been immortalized in many forms. This just happens to be the shiniest.

The pure gold coin is priced at 398,000 yen [JP] (~2,568 USD).
