Jobs for Robots: Between Robocalypse and Robotopia by Jason Schenker

There are a lot to look forward about the future, but on a grander scheme of things, there are also a lot to be afraid of about the future. Some of us maybe too naive about the threats we are getting ourselves into, you know, like the prospect of robots taking over our jobs. The movie, Alex Proyas’ I, Robot was a good hypothetical insight into the future where robots replaced humans in many jobs. In fact, we should have known better. It is no different than immigrants coming into a country and assuming a job you use to do, but at a significantly lower monetary return. I think you get the jive. This is exactly what the book, Jobs for Robots: Between Robocalypse and Robotopia (Prestige Professional Publishing, ISBN-13 978-0984972845), is about.

Written by Jason Schenker, a person who has been hailed as the “most accurate financial market forecaster and futurist in the world,” the book explores the opportunities presented by automation, robotics, and future technology, and the threats that come with these “opportunities.” Schenker also touches on the greatest challenges required to ensure that society, on the whole, can benefits from these technological advancements. We do not know Schenker’s work very well, but judging from his foresight in the economics and financial matters, he’s probably one of the go-to person when it comes answering the ‘what if’ questions.

Of course, many jobs will be so-called ‘untouchable’ by robots, but who is to say artificial intelligence won’t progress to a level where robots could even take the jobs of attorneys? Granted that movies are entirely fictional, but as history has proven, as long humans can imagined it, even the seemingly impossible could be a reality and if you look at how we have progressed technologically, it does seem so. In other words, scenes out of I, Robot, A.I., or even Terminator, could be a real possibility in future. If you are interested in how Schenker sees the future with regards to robot and how the man proposed we cope with this imminent development, then be sure to pick up a copy of the Jobs for Robots: Between Robocalypse and Robotopia ($24.99).
