luxury camera and optics maker Leica has just announced its new compact point-and-shoot digital camera, dubbed the V-Lux 30. the new V-Lux 30 has several improvements over the V-Lux 20 that it replaces. first off, it has a newly developed 15.1 megapixel CMOS sensor, a Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens with an extended range focal lengths and boost an optical zoom of 16x.

it also features an integrated GPS function and an all new 3-inch LCD touchscreen display, putting many camera controlled right at the user’s fingertip. the V-Lux 30 is capable of video recording in 1080i-AVCH Full HD with a full 16x range of zoom and an electronic wind noise filter ensures a noise-free stereo soundtrack. the camera is set to be available from Leica dealers from June 2011. in the meantime, check out more images of the V-Lux 30 after the break.
as you would have expected from a luxury camera, it will come bundled with Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 for still image processing as well as Adobe Premiere Elements 9 for video processing. a choice of type of leather camera cases to go along with this luxury compact point-and-shoot will be made available for purchase as well.
the Leica V-Lux 30 will set you back at $749 while its optional leather case cost between $130-$140 a pop. if the price of the V-Lux 30 is a little too harsh on your wallet, there is always a cheaper alternative by the way of the Panasonic ZS10, which the V-Lux 30 is based on.
