Before the lifesize McLaren LEGO Technic Formula 1 car deconstructed sculpture, McLaren commisioned a lifesize LEGO sculpture in memory of the Brazilian Formula 1 racing legend Ayrton Senna who died in a tragic accident on the race track 30 years ago. The lifesize sculpture of the 1988 MP4/4 is a blown-up version of the LEGO Icons McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna (10330) released in March this year.
All told the Lifesize LEGO McLaren MP4/4 Formula 1 Car packs 400,000 LEGO elements, weighs over 600 kilograms (1,323 lbs), and took 700 hours to build. The details of this sculpture are mind-blowing. Even the steering wheel is brick-build too. But perhaps the craziest part, IMHO, is the graphics. They are all patterns formed by the LEGO elements. I guess this makes it a high-resolution sculpture since it can even replicate the Shell and TAG Heuer logos.
Speaking of the liveries, like the LEGO Icons building set, it is unfortunate that the official sponsor Malboro cannot be recreated here due to cigarette advertising laws.
