Masters of the Universe Live-action Movie

He-Man is finally back in live action! After nearly 40 years without a theatrical adaptation (which, let’s be honest, might have been for the best), Masters of the Universe is getting a second shot at big-screen glory in 2026. Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films have unveiled the first look at Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, and while plot details remain secret, one thing is clear—Skeletor had better start running.

Masters of the Universe Live-action Movie

The film boasts a stacked cast, including Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor (yes, really), Idris Elba as Man-at-Arms, and Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man. Travis Knight (Bumblebee) is directing, so expect some serious action—and maybe fewer Dolph Lundgren-style line deliveries. Yes. I know. It is an odd choice that Idris Elba is Duncan and then Teela, played by Camila Mendes, is her daughter. So is Teela adopted, or what?

We know the reception to this kind of situation (looking at you, 2015’s Fantastic Four). I like Idris Elba, but man, having him as Man-at-Arms is a bit of a stretch. And what’s up with casting Jared Leto as Skeletor? I mean, is he going to put on a rubber muscle suit or something? Or is it getting pumped like Nicholas Galitzine did? Unlike Galitzine, whom there is news about getting into shape for the role, we hear nothing about Leto’s effort. I guess it is hush-hush for the method actor.

Since its debut in the ’80s, Masters of the Universe has lived on through cartoons, comics, and way too many toy reissues. Now, it’s finally heading back to theaters on June 5, 2026, and if all goes well, we may get more than one movie this time. So, grab your Power Sword and prepare to relive your childhood—or experience a very strange new one.

Shooting is underway for the movie.
