Mechanical Spider Bluetooth Speaker

Bluetooth speakers are just Bluetooth speakers. The most you can do to make one standout is to make it look sleeker and sounds better. You can’t actually make it ‘cool’, or so we thought. But I guess we were wrong because, the Mechanical Spider Bluetooth Speaker is actually cool. That’s right. This ‘unholy’, sci-fi-ish contraption you see here is indeed a Bluetooth speaker. Quite unbelievable that this thing is a Bluetooth speaker, really, but that’s exactly what makes it super cool.

Apparently inspired by Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series of video games published by Ubisoft, this very unusual Bluetooth speaker assume the form of a mechanical spider and comes as a self-assembly kit. It is both a stunning mechanical sculpture and a portable Bluetooth speaker. The spider “abdomen” is where the Bluetooth speaker is and it can be removed to be used without the mechanical spider. The kit comes supplied with the tools required to put the spider together.

As a speaker, it supports Bluetooth 4.2 for wireless audio streaming from Bluetooth-enabled devices, such as your smartphone, tablet, or PC. Someone known by the name Breezer sent us this hat tip, pointing to the source article, but knowing us, you know we just can post it without digging into the background. I spent the last 45 minutes looking for the creator and I did, well, kind of. There is not website or whatsoever, but we do know that this work of art was handcrafted by an enthusiast named Yiwei Zhang who is behind a small company called Machine Party.

Machine Party creates mechanical sculptures from metal hardware like bolts, nuts, screws and whatnot. The Mechanical Spider Bluetooth Speaker is just one of the many insanely cool stuff he have created. Zhang’s talent for creating incredible mechanical sculptures did not go unnoticed. He was a winner of Tianxia Science and Technology, an Arts & Cultural Industries Award in China.

His Mechanical Spider Bluetooth Speaker can also be found on popular China ecommerce websites like Taobao and TMall, and his brand, Machine Party, is very much a topic on China’s micro blogging platform, Weibo. Speaking of which, you can pick up the Mechanical Spider Bluetooth Speaker from Taobao and TMall for around 238 yuan (about US$35), but if you can’t buy from those two China’s ecommerce websites, you can acquire it from MeetIDEA or Amazon for $39.90.
