I thought Chinese smartphone maker Meizu had no desire to limit the number of models and was sticking with the same design language across all of them. But nope. It recently unveiled a brand-new model for folks who think a round camera module is cool and that the Meizu 21 Note is way too expensive.
This latest entry model dubbed the Meizu Lucky 08 AI Smartphone rocks a Xiaomi 14 Ultra-like large round camera module and has a super low starting price of just 1,599 yuan (approximately 228 USD). And yes, as the product name implies, it is also a so-called “AI smartphone” powered by Flyme AIOS because, you know, AI is the new black in the smartphone industry.
Under the hood, the new Meizu Lucky 08 AI Smartphone benefits from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip, boasting a clock speed of 2.4 GHz. It comes with a One Mind AI engine, which sounds like it’s got everything under control, as long as you’re not trying to outsmart it (hopefully they will never!).
It is offered in 8 GB and 12 GB RAM, and 256 GB and 512 GB GB for hoarding all the memes. The 6.78-inch display serves up a 1.5K resolution and it has a refresh rate that maxes out at 144Hz (though it sensibly adapts between 1 and 120Hz when your thumb isn’t spazzing out). Your eyeballs will thank you too, as it’s packed with Meizu’s eye-care features, SGS certifications, and 2,160 Hz PWM dimming. In short, it’s practically a spa day for your retinas. Just kidding! Staring at any screen is never good for any eyes but at least you know this will ease a little if you really need to ogle at it all day long.
And then there’s the camera. That large, round module doesn’t just look like a decorative frisbee; it’s got a 100 MP 1/1.67” sensor large aperture (f1.67) main camera ready to make even your dinner photos look like art. Don’t forget the 2 MP depth camera—you know, for when you need to add a little drama to your shots. Video stabilization? EIS is there, making sure your shaky hands aren’t a problem anymore. Selfie enthusiasts? Rejoice, because the 8 MP AI front camera has your back, bolstered by selfie HDR.
The Lucky 08 isn’t just about the optics, though. It packs a massive 6,000 mAh battery that charges faster than you can say “outlet,” thanks to 33 W wired fast charging. OK. That’s not an exaggeration. But you get the idea. As far as charging goes, the device supports QC4+ and USB PD 3.0.
The device further touts an under-display optical fingerprint sensor, built-in stereo speaker, and a multifunction AI button because, well, it is an AI phone, is it not? In case anyone is interested, the device measures 77.49 mm wide, 162.99 mm tall, and 8.60 mm thick, and it weighs 202 grams. Not exactly the lightest but just about the norm these days.
