nobody would actually skate with a gold leaf covered skateboard, much less a steel one but that doesn’t stop artist Miya Ando from creating this beautiful steel skateboard with 24k gold leaf covering its underside. yes, it is the side where we board grinds. ouch. obviously, this is more of a work of art, a steel sculpture if you like, then a real usable skateboard but no one’s stopping you from using it if you think the price tag of about $5,000 is small money. on a second thought, i think it would be too heavy to do any real tricks but it would certainly look cool on a nice display stand – preferably with acrylic rod as the stand so that both the industrial look steel surface and the gold leaf can be seen in its full glory.
