After its successful crowdfunding campaign on Xiaomi Youpin [CH] where it rolled in 1 million yuan (about US$145,455) in just 14 days, the Monshotek Xiaomo Magic Camera is now available to buy in China from JD.com and TMall.

What draws us to this imaging device is the adorable “eyes” that make the device look like an owl. It is even more adorable when it is docked in its cradle. Speaking of cradle… the Monshotek Xiaomo Magic Camera is marketed as a “magnetic attachment imaging” and home surveillance device.

The latter is where the cradle comes in. When placed inside the cradle, it automatically enters the home surveillance mode which will rotate 360° to continuously monitor your home while being charged at the same time.

In the home surveillance mode, it supports bi-directional communication, 360-degree rotation, high-resolution IR night vision, and AI human detection.

Meanwhile, the main camera is super compact, weighing only 85g (3 oz.) and measuring 5.22 cm by 5.22 cm (2.1 x 2.1 inches).

It comes with a rechargeable battery good for up to 85 mins of use in between charges. The metal back of the camera can be removed to serve as a stand for a camera that allows for angle adjustments.

A beautifully decorated magnetic sticker can be used on smooth, flat surfaces to create a temporary magnetic surface if there isn’t a metal surface.

Using AI, Monshotek Xiaomo Magic Camera can automatically detect and record images of your pet too.

The camera is also capable of time-lapse imaging. In fact, it has two time-lapse modes: fast for capturing traffic, and people, and slow for recording cloud movements and sunset.

The camera is paired with a 120° lens, records in 2.5K resolution (2,560 x 1,440 pixels) and stores the images on Class 10 or higher or UHS-1 or faster SD card. In the home surveillance mode, it supports 7-day cycle cloud storage.

The camera further features a dual microphone, Bluetooth 5.0, and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.

The Monshotek Xiaomo Magic Camera is available in China from JD.com and TMall for about 899 yuan, which works out to be around US$131 based on today’s going rate.
