Clearly, some of us want Stranger Things-themed footwear to actually scream “Stranger Things.” This means more than just nostalgia. It would be nice to have something that is truly in-your-face, like this pair of Nike SB x Stranger Things Vecna Custom Sneakers by sneakerhead and Instagrammer Richard Prieto (@rchrdp305).
It is just a mockup built on a pair of official Stranger Things Dunks, but it has won the internet anyway, racking up over 200,000 likes since the dude revealed it on Instagram last month. In this amazing creation, Prieto could have been the hero of Hawkins because he seemingly ripped Vecna’s skin off and adhered it to a pair of Nike SBs. The result is a pair of shoes that looks like Vecna’s feet when worn.
Is it grotesque? Yes, it is. But is it cool? It sure as hell is.
Vecna’s skin, scarred, raw, and vine-like, has been accurately recreated on this pair of mockup sneakers. Even the shoebox was not spared, receiving the same scarred-skin treatment. The commitment here is impressive, disturbing, and oddly admirable all at once.
Unfortunately, I do not believe this is for sale. It appears to be one sneakerhead doing what Nike did not, filling the gap for fans who wanted their Stranger Things kicks to go full Upside Down instead of politely nodding at it.
