TikTok is the international version of China’s popular micro vlogging platform, Douyin. Douyin, unbeknownst to many outside of China, is more than a social media video platform. It is a lifestyle phenomenon that includes a division called ‘Douyin Creativity’.
Announced recently is the company’s first official true wireless earbuds which a collaborative product with China smartphone maker, Smartisan – the same company which help ByteDance launched its first smartphone last year.
The Official Douyin True Wireless Sound Earbuds claims a more robust Bluetooth connectivity (by up to 20% – though, it is not clear what benchmark was used) and very strangely, the earbuds boasts an UV protective coating.
It offers up to 4.5 hours of playtime and it comes with a charging case that provides a further 13.5 hours of use. The battery supports fast charging too. However, it is not clear the stated 1.5 hours fast charging is the charging case or the earbuds. In addition, the earbuds supports simple smart gestures for music control as well as voice assistant.
Other highlights include Bluetooth 5.0, ceramic antennae, 13 mm dynamic driver, independent earbud connection to source, and USB-C recharging. Like many of today’s TWS earbuds, each earbud can be used independently.
Douyin TWS isn’t listed on its official store, but it is listed on Smartisan website alongside Smartisan’s version for 279 yuan (roughly US$42). The Smartisan branded version sells for 209 yuan (about US$31).
