OnePlus has a new Ace device. Joining the OnePlus Ace 3 is the Ace 3 Pro. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, the new Pro version of the Ace is a flagship device chockful of note-worthy features but with an upper mid-range price, well, at least it is in China.
Memories
Kicking off the feature list is up to 24 GB LPDDR5X memory and up to 1 TB UFS 4.0 storage. The new OnePlus Ace 3 Pro [CH] features a self-developed so-called “renewal storage technology” that will save up to 94 GB of storage space, enhancing reading and writing speeds and improving the smoothness of long-term use—even after 4 years of usage, said OnePlus.
Battery
The battery also promises up to 4 years of healthy battery life—thanks partly to the smartphone maker’s SUPERVOOC S battery management chip brand’s SUPERVOOC S battery management chip.
The new Ace 3 Pro is outfitted with a 6,100 mAh ‘Glacier’ battery that uses a new in-house developed high-capacity bionic silicon-carbon material and is equipped with low-expansion second-generation silicon, resulting in an increased in battery capacity but with a reduced physical size.
Display
The display is pretty impressive too with an all-new 1-120 Hz 6.78” 1.5K 3D AMOLED flexible display featuring 8T LTPO technology, eye protection, and Oppo’s first-generation display chip.
The screen supports Dolby Vision, HDR 10+, and HDR Vivid and boasts ZREAL certification for high-res display. It has a 4,500 nit peak brightness to ensure readability even under bright outdoor environments.
The display touts rainwater touch 2.0, allowing the touch screen to operate with wet hands, and in the rain.
Cameras
In the imaging department, the new Ace 3 Pro is rocking three cameras around the back: Sony IMX890 50 MP large sensor with OIS, a 2 MP 4 cm macro camera, and an 8 MP 112° super wide-angle.
All these is backed by Oppo’s flagship imaging algorithm. Around the front, it has got a 16 MP camera. The cameras also benefit from AI imaging, include AI high-res group photo, AI removal, and AI image cutout.
Gaming
It is worth mentioning that this device is also a gaming beast. It boasts an independent esports-grade gaming discrete graphics chip that offers 120 fps gaming at 1.5K resolution with HDR 3.0 image quality.
Haptics
The device further touts a so-called “bionic vibration motor turbo” which is billed as the “kind of Android haptic motors” offering a strong and delicate vibration.
OnePlus continues to add that it is an ultra-large motor with industry-leading vibration volume, bandwidth, and start-stop speed. Paired with O-Haptics vibration system, the new Ace 3 Pro supports high-quality vibration for mutliple games.
Cooling
With a device this hard working, cooling is imperative as such it is blessed with a second-generation “heavenly” heat dissipation system featuring 9,126 mm2 super large VC, plus a 2K supercritical thermal graphite—a new thermal graphite that has thermal conducitivity far superior to conventional graphite, resulting in the next level of heat dissipation.
Connectivity
Strong connectivity is its next suit. It has “super signal engineering” that promise smooth network connectivity anytime, anywhere. Bold claim. How it really works out remain to be seen.
OnePlus works its magic on a surround distributed antenna design and support from multiple network technologies. It boasts a 360° gaming surround antenna featuring 13 esport-grade antennas.
Plus, it has a this thing called “Full acceleration technology 3.0” that ensures Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections are more stable and “Active Enhanced Super Wi-Fi 2.0” that is said to improved transmission stability and wall penetration ability.
Other Highlights
Other spec sheet details include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, dual channel GPS, IR blaster, a super thin in-display fingerprint sensor, IP65 rated for dust and water resistant, Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, USB 2.0 wuith Type-C interface, and dual SIM (nano).
OS/AI
The Ace 3 Pro runs on ColorOS 14 imbued with, you guessed it, AI.
Design
Aesthetically, it is very OnePlus. Starting with the display, it has subtle curve on all sides that matches the back cover’s (known as a 3D curved design). The dual side curved edges are complimented by a roundish metal frame. The frame is where you find OnePlus’s trademark 3-position slider.
Meanwhile, the back cover is offered in a choice of glass, vegan leather, and ceramic materials for the flagship look and feel. The glass and the vegan leather are titanium mirror silver and green leather.
The ceramic is a little more upmarket. It is a supercar ceramic collector’s edition—inspired by speed and performance of supecars by marrying automotive-grade rare ceramic material, resulting in a Mohs hardness of 8.5.
Pricing and Availability
The new OnePlus Ace 3 Pro is launched in China with a starting price of 3,199 yuan [CH], which is about US$440 based on today’s exchange rate.
