Cars are not the only things Porsche is turning out to mark its 70 years of sports car in 2018. There is at least one non-car thing. Though so, it is one that is no less closely related to Porsche’s automobile. This celebratory product is the 1919 Datetimer 70Y Sports Car Limited Edition timepiece. Yes, it is a wrist watch, but not just any wrist watch.
It is a watch that pays homage to the marque’s very first sports car, the Porsche 356, bearing distinctive features that points to the legendary classic. Features like a striking black dial decorated with the silhouette of the Porsche 356 and the year 1948, tachometer rings reminiscent that of the dashboard of the 356, and a strap made from the same premium leather as the vehicle seats.
Other noteworthy highlights include 42 mm titanium black carbide coated titanium case, water resistant to 10 bar, an automatic Swiss Sellita SW 200-1 movement, 38-hour power reserve, Porsche Design Icon Rotor, anti-glare and scratch-proof sapphire crystal, white hands matched to three-dimensional ceramic numbers and indices, a date window at 3 o’clock position, screw down crown and case back, and rounding up with a folding clasp.
Each limited edition timepiece is presented in a custom box with a special limitation badge for, you know, a touch of exclusivity because, after all, you are expected to drop a grand 2,948 euro (that’s about US$3,410) for it. It is kind of pricey, but you’d be glad to know not all richie rich will be able to own it because, this special edition timepiece is limited to just 1948 pieces – a number that is a nod to the origin year of the birth of the legend.
