Porsche Design is reviving its iconic Military Chronograph, originally from the late 1970s. The original was renowned for its reliability and comfort, becoming a favorite among aviation professionals due to its matte-black PVD coating that reduced reflections and ensured readability. It even caught the attention of the US Air Force, which outfitted its officers with this timepiece.
Now, over 40 years later, Porsche Design is reintroducing this legend, called the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition. It’s made from a special material, titanium carbide – specially developed and patented by Porsche Design – for the very first time, making the timepiece case even more durable, scratch-resistant, and lighter.
The watch features blue Super-LumiNova for improved readability in the dark and a COSC-certified Porsche Design-caliber WERK 01.240 caliber movement with a flyback function for precision timekeeping.
The design pays homage to the original with a matte-black dial and includes a ‘Mankei’ icon, symbolizing a partnership with F.A.T. International. The dial further features the ‘TiC’ logo, which marks the use of titanium carbide, and a modern reinterpretation of the iconic ‘3H’ symbol of the military chronograph.
This modern version blends tradition and innovation, offering a reliable and stylish companion for outdoor activities. The super collectible adventurer’s timepiece is paired with a slate gray bund strap made of Porsche vehicle leather.
It’s a limited edition, with each piece displaying an engraving of the ‘Mankei’ and ‘Chronograph 1 Utility Edition’ on the case back, along with a unique limitation number (out of 250).
For those interested, the new Porsche Design Chronograph 1 Utility – Limited Edition is available for pre-order now on Porsche-design.com for a grand sum of US$13,000.
This is not the first time Porsche Design has brought back the icon. The most recent case of revival was the Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – 75 Years Porsche Edition.
