Porsche Wireless Charging for Electric Vehicles

If plugging in your Porsche feels a little too… ordinary, good news: soon you can just park it and let science do the rest. Porsche has announced Porsche Wireless Charging, an inductive charging system that works just like tossing your phone on a charging pad—except this pad is 117 by 78 by 6 cm (46 by 31 by 2.4 in) and weighs 50 kg (110 lbs).

The system delivers up to 11 kW with an efficiency of up to 90 percent. Translation: it charges as fast as wired AC without the cable spaghetti. All you need is the floor plate in your garage, carport, or driveway, and an equipped Cayenne Electric (internal code: E4). The car lowers itself automatically when parked above the plate, energy jumps across a few centimetres of air, and voilà, the battery fills up. Safety systems pause charging if a stray object—or pet—wanders in.

A prototype wearing fluorescent paint struts the tech at IAA Mobility 2025 (September 9 to 14, 2025) in Munich. The glow-up coating literally lights up under voltage, in shades from blue to violet, thanks to over 25 ultra-thin layers and a hundred litres of clear varnish.

The Cayenne Electric, debuting at the end of 2025, will be the first Porsche to offer this option. Sales of the wireless floor plate start in 2026 at Porsche Centres and online. Porsche Wireless Charging will first roll out in Europe, with other markets to follow. Pricing will be revealed closer to launch.
