Aviation enthusiasts, how do you like a piece of the world’s fastest and highest-flying production aircraft, the SR-71 Blackbird, on your wrist? Well, if you do, you are in luck because REC Watches has made a timepiece out of an SR-71. Meet the REC Watches SR-71 Habu, an exclusive, limited Swiss-made timepiece crafted from SR-71 Blackbird, aircraft number 61-7956.
This particular aircraft left an impressive record in aviation history with 1,454 successful flights and accumulated 3,967.5 flight hours—more than any SR-71. The time may be over this iconic aircraft but its spirit remains in this wristwatch. Housed in a grade 2 titanium tonneau case, each watch features a dial made from the titanium alloys of the aircraft’s inner engine nacelle exhaust ejectors, along with various design elements that capture the essence of this aviation icon.
It has a case diameter of 40 mm and measures 47 mm lug-to-lug, and is 12.30 mm thick. It is powered by a manual-winding Caliber SW270-1 M SELLITA movement, boasting a black PVD-coated movement w. skeletonized train wheel bridge. The movement further touts 18 jewels Incabloc, 28’800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz)m 3 hands, date, and 45 hours power reserve.
Other notables include Super-LumiNova filled hands and indexes (in BGW9 Blue), a red-to-black fade seconds hand, 5 ATM / 50 meters water resistance, a sapphire crystal with 3 layers of anti-reflective coating, a 316L stainless steel crown, and a caseback, also in 316L stainless steel, with a see-through back with mineral glass.
The timepiece is paired with a double injection black and red FKM rubber strap with woven kevlar inlay and a 316L stainless steel clasp.
