Gone were the days where wall-mount is the fad flatscreen TVs. These days, having your gloriously huge, super thin, super high resolution flat panel TV on a stand is the way to go. Sony have long understand this, but Samsung isn’t far behind either. The South Korean electronics giant has teamed up with Dezeen, a design and architectural magazine, to call upon the creative minds from around the world to submit their vision of a TV stand for Samsung QLED TV line. The competition attracted over 1,200 submissions from no less than 83 countries.
Clearly, there is no lack of designers who want to have say about how TV stand should look like and the response to the competition is also an affirmation that the design community have had enough of lacklustre TV stands; it is time for a change. TV stand should not be an option. It will not stand as a reserve for times when wall-mounting is not an option. It wants to make a stand (pun intended with no apologies) and thanks to Samsung’s first ever global TV accessory design competition, TV stand maybe getting its long overdue attention.
