Sonic Blocks Modular Wireless Speaker System

Have you ever feel like your existing speakers could use an extra tweeter or two? Or maybe even a couple of mid-range drivers? Well, if so, then here’s a wireless speaker system that will let you add and subtract individual speakers as you see fit and you can do so without any knowledge of sound engineering. Called Sonic Blocks, this new kid in the speaker arena proposed a modular HiFi audio system that allows you to customize your audio experience simply by selecting, swapping, and optimizing the Sonic Blocks units. The base system comes with the “brain” which is essentially the heart of the system, a tweeter driver, a full-range driver, and a bass driver.

The real draw of this system is you are open to the option of acquiring additional drivers of your choice (super tweeters, tweeters, mid-range drivers, and woofers) to create audio that pleases your sound holes. If another person comes along, he or she customize to his or her audio consumption preference by swapping out, removing speaker modules, or even add even more of them to create a wall of sound. Sonic Blocks offers two forms of connectivity: WiFi for the best wireless audio transmission possible and the “lesser” Bluetooth technology.

Whichever wireless streaming you choose, it will need to rely on the proprietary app to make the most out of the audio system. The app, which will be available for both Android and iOS, lets you setup the system, access music stored locally as well as online, fine tune the individual DSP engines and distribute audio through your home network. According to Sonic Blocks, the speakers will be updatable and in keeping with modern times, Sonic Blocks also features built-in lighting for some eye-candy as well as for at-a-glance information.

Other noteworthy mentions include articulating speakers, stackable brain, built-in Class D amplification and DSP, and a variety of input options, ranging from USB to Optical to analog. Sonic Blocks is juiced by a lithium-ion rechargeable battery which offers over 15 hours of playback, but we would imagine as you expand the system that number will go down and in this case, I am guessing the wall plug, which it also supports, should come in handy. This rig is definitely not designed with portability in mind, so perhaps, wall plug is a wiser option.

Anywho, Sonic Blocks has gone on the crowdfunding route, taking the world’s first modular wireless speaker to Indiegogo where you can pre-order a setup starting at $199. The campaign is on flexible goal which means your pledge is in fact a pre-order as we have mentioned.
