Japanese name in souvenir jacket best known for its collaborations with pop culture icons and other brands, Sugomono, has revealed a special collaboration with Takara Tomy to mark the 40th anniversary of Transformers. The souvenir jacket, or sukajan as it is known in Japan, is a type of bomber jacket that originated in Japan after WWII. The jackets are mostly inspired by baseball jackets and stand out with silky materials like rayon, satin, or velveteen, often featuring intricate embroidery of Japanese influences.
But the Sugomono 40th Anniversary Transformers Souvenir Jacket [JP] is not your usual sukajan, obviously. It is a sukajan that celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Generation 1 (G1) Transformers series from the 1980s, blending traditional Sukajan design with the themes of Autobots and Decepticons from the series.
The jacket is a luxurious reversible piece featuring the iconic Dinobot and Devastator characters, embodying the clash between good and evil. If you have watched the season 1 cartoon, you will understand perfectly why Dinobots and Constructicons were chosen.
The jacket showcases the Dinobots on one side, with intricate embroidery of characters like Grimlock, Swoop, Slag, Sludge, and Snarl from the 1980s G1 series, set against a backdrop featuring “JAPAN” text, made from comfortable acetate fabric. The other side features Devastator, a combination of six Decepticon members, with distinctive light green and purple colors, paying homage to THE FIRST COMBINERS.
Priced at 94,600 yen with tax [JP] (about US$646) and available in sizes from S to XXL, the Sukajan aims to appeal to Transformers fans, Sukajan enthusiasts, and fashion lovers alike, offering a unique garment that respects the tradition and history of Sukajan while incorporating the charm of 80s G1 Transformers.
It is worth noting that the jacket is available for a limited time through complete made-to-order production, with orders being accepted from January 31 to February 12, 2024.
The collaboration represents an effort by Sugomono JAPAN to promote and expand the possibilities of Sukajan/souvenir jackets globally through collaborations with traditional cultures, new perspectives, and Japanese-origin content like anime, manga, and games.
