Spain-based German architect Andre Broessel has a big dream. he believe in autonomous consumption off the grid that will eventually contribute to reverse climate change and the Rawlemon is the invention that he is banking on to achieve this dream. so what is a Rawlemon? it is basically a big-ass solar ball lens that directs diffuse sun ray into a photovoltaic panel with far greater efficiency over conventional solar panels. the principals behind spherical geometry and how light behave when passed through them allows the water-filled ball lens to direct even the faintest sun ray, therefore enabling harvesting to continues when cloudy or even at night. there’s another features that makes the Rawlemon further stands out from the rest of the solar devices out in the market: it has special dual axis tracking system that enables the solar ball lens to follow the course of the sun and moon as they travels across the sky. StrongVolt SmartCharger Solar Charger

we seen our fair share solar charger, but the StrongVolt SmartCharger you see here is not your typical solar chargers; it solves two common problems associated with current solar chargers in the market. first, it has a patent-pending SunTrack technology that allows the StrongVolt to go into standby mode when the sun is not available (such as being momentarily blocked by clouds or you walked into a shade) and automatically resume charging once the sun is back. this may come as a surprise, but this is apparently an inherent problem with current solar charging offerings. those chargers will still work, but not without having to disconnect the charger and reconnecting it again, which can be quite a hassle, especially when the sun comes and go in a typical cloudy day. Ford C-MAX Solar Energi Concept

plug-in hybrid, or electric vehicle for that matter, is still relying on the grid, which most likely generates electricity through burning of fossil fuel. not exactly the cleanest of the clean if you really look into where the source of electricity comes from. that’s not to mention the need to plug-in and charge, but what if, you don’t have to? that’s exactly what the Ford C-Max Solar Energi Concept is proposing. it is a concept plug-in hybrid that, well, wants you not plug-in to get the electric portion filled. as the name implies, this concept has a solar panel roof that draws the necessary power from a special solar concentrator lens similar to a magnifying glass, to collect a day’s worth of sunlight energy for the same performance as the conventional C-MAX Energi Plug-in Hybrid. which means the C-MAX Solar can do up to 620 miles (998 km) in total range and 21 miles (34 km) on electric-only, all without having to rely on the grid. even after over two years after its launch, the MS Turanor PlanetSolar Boat is still worthy of being feature here. especially after it has made a historical 19-month trip, circumnavigating the world’s water with just only solar power. more recently, the Swiss catamaran sets sail with a scientific purpose; to collect data along the Gulf Stream under the project dubbed as The DeepWater Expedition. crowned as the largest solar-powered watercraft, it has 516 square-meter of photovoltaic panel all lined up on the surface of the boat, converting the sun energy to feed its 8.5 tons of lithium-ion batteries that powers its 120kW electric motor and enabling it to cruise on the open water at a modest pace of 5 knots (average). the boat kicked off its leg from Miami, after which it made a friendly drop at New York which will followed by a few port of calls in Boston, Canada, Iceland, before finally, completing the trip in Norway.
