We all know the surreal, alternate history sci-fi series Tales from the Loop on Amazon Prime Video is based on the art book by Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag. But do you know that there has been a tabletop RPG since 2017?
Yes it does. Not only there was a tabletop game based on this ultra surreal artbook, there’s now a new Starter Set on the market. So, if you haven’t already gotten into the wondrous world of Tales from the Loop in real life, it may be the time to do so.
Coming from Swedish game and book publisher Free League Publishing (Fria Ligan AB), the new Tales from the Loop RPG Starter Set is available as a physical boxed set as well as in digital format. The latter is a move by Free League in support for virtual tabletop gaming for all of its titles.
Here’s the gist of what the game is about:
“In the Tales From the Loop RPG, players take the roles of teenagers solving spectacular mysteries connected to the Loop – a huge and mysterious underground particle generator.”
The new Tales from the Loop RPG Starter Kit is marketed as the “ideal starting point for role-players who want to step into the world of the Loop,” and it contains everything players need to get started:
• An illustrated rule book explaining how to play the game
• The complete adventure called The Recycled Boy
• Five pre-generated characters ready to play
• A large, full-color map of land of the Loop
• Ten engraved custom dice
Tales from the Loop RPG was original a stretch goal on a Kickstarter campaign in support of the publication of the art book. It was subsequently further funded in another Kickstarter campaign by Fria Ligan AB where it received an overwhelming support from the community.
The new Tales from the Loop RPG Starter Set can be found on Free League website, at Roll20 marketplace, and at DriveThruRPG in PDF format. Tales from the Loop RPG Starter Set sells for US$25.57 and U$30.72 for the physical + virtual bundle. Various previous version can also be found on Free League website.
