To be honest I have absolutely no idea what the Teenage Engineering Grip Car was when I first saw it. All I know is the aluminum construction with smooth ball-bearing rubber wheels looks like something out of a sci-fi movie which means it looks super cool.

The Teenage Engineering Grip Car, which is designed by Danish designer Anders Hermansen, feels like a toy, and yet it also feels like a reference engineering piece. It can be pushed around like a toy with the frame acting as the steering wheel.

The latter boasts innovative mechanics that allow 360° rotation, allowing the grip car to be moved freely in any direction and over any terrain. Well, that sounds like a perfect base for a super off-roader, doesn’t it?

All parts are CNC machined from aluminum 6063-T6 and stainless steel. Now that I have written this much, I finally concluded that it is a toy or an engineer’s fidget toy of sorts. You can choose to play with it, gripping the body and moving it however you desire, or you can display it on the shelf.

It measures 250 x 190 x 80 mm or 9.84 x 7.48 x 3.14 inches and weighs a pretty hefty 980g (2.16 lbs).

The Teenage Engineering Grip Car by Anders Hermansen can be had for US$249 a pop and in a choice of aluminum, black, or red.
