another day, another smartphone hailing from the world’s largest economy, China. this time round is a brand that is lesser known, called ThL and it has set itself apart from the horde of Android phones rolling into the market with the ThL Monkey King W11 Smartphone that boasts the world’s first 13MP camera – not the main camera, but the front-facing camera. so do we really need such a megapixel camera for the front as well? we don’t know, but one thing for sure, it is going to be a boon to selfie fanatics. ThL is a firm founded by Shenzhen Hongjiayuan Communication Technology Co., Ltd whose specialty is in smartphone research and development, sales and services and apart from the whopping 13MP front-facing camera, other hardware specifications are no slouch either.
powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz Cortex A7 processor with up to full 2GB of RAM, other features expected of this smartphone with monster front-facing shooter include a 13MP main camera, up to 32GB onboard storage, a 5″ Full HD touch display with OGS lamination (a rage in China’s handset, i supposed) and touting a massive 441 ppi of pixel density, a 2,000 mAh battery, along with today’s smartphone standards such as A-GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity, G-sensor, proximity and light sensor, and the likes. radio-wise, expect 3G is the best you will get with support for HSUPA+ with up 11.6Mbps downlink and HSDPA+ for up to 21Mbps download. this Android phone was officially made available in mainland China on July 17, but at this point, that is where it will be available cos’ there’s no word if the ThL Monkey King W11 Smartphone will be made available elsewhere outside of China.
btw, just in case you are wondering, Monkey King is named after the Chinese folklore’s Monkey God who was said to be born out of heaven and earth, and subsequently became a deity. by direct translation, ThL 美猴王 actually means Beautiful Monkey King. odd that ThL has chosen a deity as a model name of their latest phone. anyway, the phone is on sale now in China for RMB 1,699, or about $277 in green backs. take a few more larger looks after the break.
