Tomica, is celebrating its 50 years anniversary this year. Marking its golden jubilee, Tomica has collaborated with three of Japan’s most notable car manufacturers to release an exclusive model from each of the brand.
Kicking off the 50th anniversary collab is the Honda Civic Type R Tomica 50th Anniversary Specification designed by Honda, featuring a special 50th anniversary livery designed by Masaki Yamabata from Honda Automobile Center Design department. Masaki-san’s design was the winner in an in-house competition.
The Honda Civic Type R Tomica 50th Anniversary Specification by Honda is available now in Japan for 800 yen (about US$7.50) plus tax.
The celebration does not end with a toy Honda Civic Type R with special livery; The special livery has also been applied to a real Honda Civic Type R which was originally planned to reveal at the now-cancelled Tomica Expo in Osaka.
The Honda Civic Type R Tomica 50th Anniversary will be followed by a Toyota GR Supra Tomica 50th Anniversary Commemorative Specification designed by Toyota in June and a Nissan GT-R Tomica 50th Anniversary Commemorative Specification designed by Nissan in August.
Both will sell for 800 yen plus tax when they become available and both will also see a real car counterpart, with the Toyota Supra to be unveiled at Tokyo Toy Show 2020 in June (TBC) and the Nissan GT-R, at the Tomica Expo in Yokohama in August (TBC).
Folks outside of Japan can pick up the Honda Civic Type R Tomica 50th Anniversary Specification designed by Honda from places like Rakuten for $8.22 a pop.
