In an event in August, Toyota Japan revealed that the beloved 70 Series is making its return to Japan as a regular model in the range, offering original features that have evolved with the times. Instead of the traditional gasoline-powered engine, the new 70 Series comes with an updated 2.8-liter 1GD turbo diesel engine powertrain that boasts outstanding reliability, delivering the tough off-road performance only available from a high-torque, high-output diesel engine, while achieving a low-noise, quiet ride and improved fuel economy.

This diesel engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, ensuring strong driving performance and excellent fuel economy. The vehicle retains its original ladder frame for high durability and reliability, with improved on-road comfort while maintaining outstanding off-road driving performance.

Here are some prototype specifications for the 70 Series: it has a length of 4,890 mm, a width of 1,870 mm, a height of 1,920 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,730 mm. The engine is the 1GD-FTV Diesel 2.8-liter turbo, with a maximum output of 150 kW (204 PS) and a maximum torque of 500 N·m. This return to the 70 Series offers a blend of traditional and modern enhancements, making it a robust and reliable choice for various driving needs.
