If you thought the Evangelion Prime Unit-01 was going to fight the Angels alone, you clearly underestimated Takara Tomy’s commitment to emptying the wallets of Evangelion and Transformers fans simultaneously. The second collaboration figure has arrived, and naturally, it is Unit-02.
The Synergenex Transformers Evangelion Prime Unit-02 is not Optimus Prime wearing Asuka’s preferred shade of red. According to its wonderfully chaotic backstory, this is next-generation Autobot Supreme Commander Rodimus Prime after scanning Evangelion Unit-02. Never mind how one “scans” a giant biomechanical humanoid restrained in armor. Cybertronian technology does not have to explain itself to us.
Like Unit-01, Unit-02 transforms from robot mode into a cab-over truck. The vehicle wears the Eva’s familiar red, orange, and black colors, with an Autobot emblem on the left and a NERV logo on the right. In robot mode, the basic Optimus Prime design remains visible, but the shoulders, chest, limbs, and head have been reworked to capture Unit-02’s appearance.
The head includes a face-change function that switches between visor-off and visor-on modes. Engaging the visor reveals Unit-02’s four additional eyes, giving it the full six-eyed look and a few extra intimidation points over Rodimus Prime’s adolescent appearance.
It is also armed like somebody warned it that an Angel might interrupt the photo shoot. The figure includes two Photon Palette Rifles for dual-wielding (which Asuka would love to have!), two Anti-Material Saw Blades—the Evangelion-lized Rodimus Prime’s buzzsaw, and the Spear of Longinus. The saw blades can be attached to the fists using adapters or mounted at both ends of the spear’s handle to create something even less workplace-safe.
A rear mounting unit allows the accessories to hitch a ride on its back. Meanwhile, opening the chest exposes a removable core that can be installed inside the included Core Matrix. The fully articulated figure has movable shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, and knees, plus opening fists for plenty of dramatic Eva poses. It stands approximately 25 cm (9.8 inches) tall.
The Synergenex Transformers Evangelion Prime Unit-02 is scheduled for release in late March 2027 for 11,000 yen [JP] (around US$74). Pre-orders are open through Takara Tomy Mall in Japan with delivery slated for late March 2027. It is available for pre-order via Hasbropulse.com for US$84.99, with delivery expected around May 01, 2027. Pre-orders on Hasbropulse.com will close in 20 days.
