Transformers New Legends, Takara Tomy’s modern revival line (read: recolor) of obscure deep-cut variants of classic Transformers characters, has recently added three more toys to the series. There’s the NL-06 Autobot Cosmos, NL-07 Soundwave, and NL-08 Delta Magnus Primal Vanguard Set.
First up, the NL-06 Autobot Cosmos [JP] transforms from an 11.7 cm-tall robot into the little green flying saucer we know and love. His removable chest panel becomes a shield, and he includes a separate weapon. Unlike most Transformers New Legends releases, Cosmos is not merely an old toy wearing fresh paint. It uses previously unreleased tooling developed for the Transformers: EarthSpark Deluxe line. I’ve got to admit I sure did not see this coming. A brand new mold? Has the world turned upside down?
The NL-07 Soundwave [JP], meanwhile, revives the difficult-to-find EarthSpark Deluxe Soundwave mold. He transforms into a stealth fighter jet, while his shoulder-mounted cannon can be removed and wielded as a handheld blaster. No cassette player mode here. Neither is there an MP3 player, which he could have been, but clearly, becoming a music player of any kind does not help on the battlefield, so we have Megatron’s most loyal lieutenant as a bomber. Yes. Not even a spy jet! Can you imagine that?
Both Cosmos and Soundwave are priced at 4,950 yen each and are scheduled for release in Japan in late January 2027.
Then there is the NL-08 Delta Magnus Primal Vanguard Set [JP], a 20,900-yen three-pack arriving in late February 2027. Delta Magnus repaints the Studio Series 86 Commander Class Ultra Magnus mold in colors inspired by Diaclone Powered Convoy. Cybertron Powerdrive reuses the Power of the Primes Beachcomber mold as a buggy that fits inside Magnus’ carrier trailer, while Secret Agent Arcee repurposes Titans Return Titan Master tooling and transforms into a head. Yup. Headmaster is in the mix, too, just like it should.
The Cosmos and Soundwave were available to order from Hasbro Pulse for US$34.99 each, with shipping estimated for February 28, 2027. However, the window to order has closed. Fret not; you probably can order it from other major toy retailers. Meanwhile, the Delta Magnus set, which cost US$134.99, is still available to order as we speak. It is expected to ship around April 1, 2027.
