side tracking a little here. we can see the gradual adoption of the USB 3.0 since it’s introduction back in 2008. since then we have seen Buffalo, LaCie and the likes introducing and refreshing their external drives with the new SuperSpeed standard. so now that hard drives manufacturers are churning out SuperSpeed stuff we hope to see more machines having the USB 3.0 ports.

back to the WD new external drives. both drives are backward compatible with USB 2.0. even if you don’t have the USB 3.0 ports to utilize the SuperSpeed USB, these drives will definitely future-proof your drive – until you get a comp supporting the USB 3.0. The My Passport Essential is available 500GB, while the My Book Essential is available in four capacity from 1TB up to 3TB.
