There are concept cars that garnered many looks, but in the case of Qatar’s first-ever sports car, those looks could be for all the wrong reasons. I mean, just take a look at the images of this out-of-this-world, Transformers-ish exotic ride conjured by Texas A&M at Qatar. One look at it, you know this car is out to defy every conventions in the car design rule book. When Jalopnik’s Jason Torchinsky came up with a meme that says “Keep the sheet on. Trust me, he wasn’t joking. The car looks like a rolling geometric shape with more sharp edges than curves which a car rightfully should have in accordance to, you know, the principle of aerodynamics.

Our guts tell us that aerodynamic is probably least of the designers’ concern. Ok, we assuming. Maybe it did went through wind tunnel testing but the result is, well, lets just say, radically unconventional. We won’t use the ‘u’ word for fear of being sued like some publication faced with another outrageous design. Anyways, whatever angles you look at it, there are just way too many things happening. Man, is this car targeted at Cybertron market? I am certain it will go down very well with Cybertronians. Who knows? Megatron may want to hit ‘her’ up?

With this overboard sci-fi-ish aesthetic, you may think Elibreia is powered by some kind of futuristic motor fueled by rocket propellant, but thankfully, there aren’t any thing too radical under the bonnet. In fact, it is driven by a much conventional GM V6 motor with 535 horses on the tap, which is put to good use by all four wheels that has just 2,000 lbs (907 kilograms) to haul (or push, depending on the front/rear drive bias) – thanks to the origami-like carbon fiber body.

Overall, it does has the silhouette of a supercar, but it is definitely not a looker by any concept car standard. In all fairness, the concept put up on show at the Falit Qatar Motor Show looks like a rough cut and so, hopefully, the next iteration will be much better. We seriously think they should cut the geometric-heavy design some slack and also, sort out the warp windows and windshield too.
