2016 Peugeot 2008 DKR16 Dakar Rally Car

We don’t always feature rally cars, but when we do, you can bet that it is one heck of a looker, like this new Dakar Rally from Peugeot for 2016 season. Ok, maybe it didn’t look all that different from this year’s, but it does feature several improvements. It is bigger, specifically longer and wider, has a lower center of gravity and more powerful. Though longer, it now sports shorter front and rear overhangs, allowing it to tackle a range of terrains and obstacles.

Aerodynamics also received some tweaks, which saw a better downforce between front and rear, and better airflow. Other enhancements include redesigned suspension, better weight distribution, one-piece magnesium wheels with lighter Michelin tires, and of course, a more powerful 3.0L V6 twin-turbo diesel engine (still with the air restrictor, btw).

“These improvements were gradually applied and assessed through a series of tests, culminating in a one-two finish for Peterhansel and Despres on the recent China Silk Road Rally using an interim-specification car. This was essentially the 2015 model, with a number of development parts for 2016 added.”

The updated 2016 Peugeot 2008 DKR16 Dakar Rally Car is set to make its debut at the next Dakar Rally in January. More look and the official promo video after the break.
