In what was arguably the biggest news today, luxury sport car maker Lamborghini has officially make its return to SUV market with the much anticipated Urus. That’s right. The Urus has broke cover today at Sant’Agata Bolognese. When it did so, it completely rewrite the SUV rule book and proudly stake claim as the world’s first Super Sport Utility Vehicle (SSUV). Yep. Supercar, Super SUV, and it rightly is. With a 4.0L V8 twin-turbo tuck under the hood kicking out a supercar’s level 650 horses and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque, this elevated supercar makes the century mark in mere 3.6 seconds and reaches a too-crazy-for-SUV top speed of 305 km/h (190-freaking-miles-an-hour!). Think I almost ran out of breath just by writing that. And yet, it is still a SUV. A SUV.
Never has a SUV been bestowed with such power and extravaganza. Urus is the first and surely deserved a length near-4,000 words press release. Being a Raging Bull and a proper SUV, it is only natural that it gets the marque’s proven 4WD system with active torque vectoring and four-wheel steering to boot. And with so much power, it is also natural that it is given super stopping power and handling which comes in the form carbon ceramic brakes paired to 10-pod brake calipers front and 6 pod rear, adaptive air suspension and electromechanical active roll stabilization. The sophisticated braking system is good enough to haul this 2.2 Metric Ton (4,850 lbs) beast to a complete stop from 100 mark in just 33.7 meters (110 feet).
Other key details include an integral lightweight body in aluminum composite design, multi-link front and rear suspension, up to 23-inch wheels wrapped in specially developed Pirelli P Zero tires, up to 8 airbags, 8-speed automatic gearbox, 7 driving modes, and a comprehensive infotainment system topped with an 8-speaker system. Prices for the 2018 Lamborghini Urus Super Sport Utility Vehicle start at $200,000 with first delivery is expected to happen in Spring 2018.
