I imagined this will not go down too well with hardcore muscle car lovers. I am talking about a new Ford Mustang. But this all-new Ford Mustang isn’t the usual muscle car flair. In fact, I wouldn’t say it is a muscle car at all.
It’s a SUV and to top that off, it is an all-electric vehicle. That’s first in 55 years. Not quite the Mustang you have come love, does it? But hey, I am open, besides, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, as it is called, looks pretty dope.
As far as performance goes, the Ford Mustang Mach-E Performance Edition (read: the pricier model) is gunning for a 0-60 timing in “mid-3 second range”, befitting a Mustang’s illustrious performance linage.
Its electric drive offers a beefy 459 ponies and a muscle car requisite metal-twisting torque coming in at 612 lb-ft (830 Nm). The capable electric drive is paired to a battery system of up to 98.8 kWh good for “at least 300 miles” (482 kilometers).
I know the prospect of an all-electric Mustang and a SUV to top that off sound crazy, but hey, it is what it is. And this ain’t no concept, btw. This is the real deal.
The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Electric SUV is real and it is open for reservation now for a $500 deposit with deliveries expected to start in Spring 2021.
A limited First Edition will be available in extended-range all-wheel drive, complete with red painted brake calipers, metallic pedal covers, contrasting seat stitching and a scuff plate marked First Edition, to distinguish it from the regular Mach-E.
