I am not going to say Crocs are great but the fact it is a pair of slides with a back strap that affords it the hold of a shoe makes it pretty cool – though ‘cool’ may not necessarily apply to the look. Just saying… Thankfully, there are options. The 2023 Nike Calm Mule is one such option.
The new Nike Calm Mule takes it further by being a two-in-one. It is a pair of slides (more like slippers, really) and also kind of a shoe much like Crocs is. The strap on each Calm Mule is removable, allowing them to be worn as slides as you see fit. Which pretty cool.
Oh, yeah, the strap is adjustable too for a custom fit. I’d say it is a cross between Crocs and the kinda formal-ish Birkenstock, but more classy in a somewhat sporty way. The strap attaches to the sides of the shoe and boasts a supportive foam patch on the heel.
It has a foam upper with a minimalist swoosh logo cut into it. The upper and the midsole have a one-piece construction and have a clean, uber-minimalist aesthetic without interruption until the ribbed outsole.
It is a strangely alluring pair of footwear. Well, at least, it is to me.
Last checked, the 2023 Nike Calm Mule has yet to hit the stores – or at least not on the online store yet – but it is tipped to be launched soon via Nike and select retailers for US$60 a pair.
However, we did find it being sold in Nike online stores in Asia, including China (499 yuan), Indonesia (Rp1,069,000), Malaysia (RM295), and Singapore (S$105). It is also available on Nike’s China Hong Kong website for 499 HKD. Oh, there is ladies’ size too.
