I cannot remember the last time we talked about the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It slips past us every single time. Well, not this time, though. Granted, it almost became last year’s news because the new S-Class was revealed half a year ago, in January. Anyhoo, yes, there’s a new S-Class, and it is not just any update. If you’re down for a super-luxe ride with grandeur, then you want to hear about this update.

It is a heavily updated 2026 S-Class, which the pointed-star marque touts as the most comprehensive refresh within a single S-Class generation. How comprehensive, you ask? Well, more than 50% of the vehicle—or around 2,700 components—has been newly developed or refined. The result is fresh styling (debatable, IMHO), a next-generation digital experience, upgraded powertrains, and enhanced comfort.
The most noticeable change is right up front. Mercedes has given the S-Class a larger illuminated grille, an optional illuminated hood ornament, and a new lighting signature with micro-LED DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps. If the regular S-Class wasn’t already capable of announcing your arrival, this one certainly makes sure everyone knows you’ve shown up.
Step inside and you’ll find the biggest transformation—the new MB.OS sits at the heart of the car, powering the latest MBUX infotainment system with AI from ChatGPT-4o, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Bing. Mercedes says the virtual assistant now carries on conversations more naturally, remembers context, and even responds with expressive animations. In other words, your luxury sedan may soon become a better listener than some people you know.

Rear-seat passengers haven’t been forgotten either. Dual 13.1-inch displays, detachable remote controls, video conferencing through Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Webex, plus a growing list of entertainment apps mean the back seat is edging ever closer to becoming a first-class airline suite—except you don’t have to wait for boarding.
Under the hood, Mercedes has refined its lineup of electrified petrol and diesel engines while improving the plug-in hybrid, which now offers around 100 kilometers (62 miles) of electric driving range. Ride comfort also receives attention with updated AIRMATIC suspension, optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL, intelligent damping that prepares for speed bumps, and rear-wheel steering of up to 10 degrees to make this full-size luxury sedan surprisingly manageable in tight spaces.
Of course, this wouldn’t be an S-Class without Mercedes throwing in a healthy dose of personalization. Buyers can choose from over 150 exterior colors and more than 400 interior colors through the expanded MANUFAKTUR program. If that somehow isn’t enough, Mercedes will even sit down with you to create something uniquely yours.
The updated Mercedes-Benz S-Class is available to order in Germany, with prices starting from €109,220.58 [DE]. Meanwhile, in the U.S., the refreshed 2027 S-Class is expected to arrive at dealerships in the second half of 2026, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.
