Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 Smartwatches

These are two new smartwatches from Huami, Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2. Looking at the duo, I can’t help but to see the resemblance in them with Huami’s new smartwatch brand, Zepp.

It feels like Huami is cannibalizing their own market, especially since the Amazfit GTR 2 and Amazfit GTS 2 are significantly cheaper than Zepp E Square and Zepp E Circle. More on that in a bit.

Amazfit GTR 2 comes in a choice of stainless steel or black aluminum alloy case and features a round 1.39-inch AMOLED display with crafted 3D curved glass while the Amazfit GTS 2 has a rectangular 1.65-inch AMOLED screen paired to an aluminum alloy case with a choice three colors: midnight black, desert gold, and urban grey.

Both smart timepieces has 3D Corning Gorilla glass with optical Diamond-like Carbon (oDLC) and anti-fingerprint coating, and they are both suitable for left- or right-handed wear – thanks to the notable screen. Then again, don’t every watch is ambidextrous?

Both watches is outfitted with BioTracker 2 PPG optical sensor for 24/7 heart rate monitoring and offers abnormal heart rate warnings. The same sensor also supports OxygenBeats for blood-oxygen level.

Functionality is pretty much what you expect of a smartwatch. These includes push notifications, sleep monitor, multi sports modes etc. Other common features include water resistance to 5 ATM (50 meters or 164 feet), Bluetooth 5.0, WLAN 2.4 GHz, calls over Bluetooth, supports Alex voice assistant, and built-in speaker, microphone and linear motor for vibration.

The main differences are essentially the style (round versus rectangular) and the battery which the GTR 2 has a larger 471 mAh good for 14 days (or 38 days under “basic usage”) and the GTS 2 gets a 246 mAh battery that offers 7 days of use or 20 days under “basic usage.”

Both watches will sell for US$179.99. The Amazfit GTR 2 will be released October 30 while the Amazfit GTS 2, November 1.
