2022 Kia EV6 Battery Electric Vehicle

Kia Motors has revealed its first dedicated battery electric vehicle, the 2022 Kia EV6. It is not a concept; the EV6 is the real-deal that will hit the global markets in the second half of 2021. In fact, online reservations have already begun in some markets since March 30.

The Kia EV6 is an electric SUV (or crossover?) built on the new dedicated EV platform, the all-new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), with a choice of zero emission powertrain configurations, boasting over 510 kilometers (317 miles) range on a single charge, and features 800V ultra-fast charging.

With 800V ultra-fast charging, the EV6 can go from 10 to 80 percent battery charge in just 18 minutes.

The EV6 GT-line is offered in a choice of 2WD or AWD and long-range (77.4 kWh) or standard-range (58 kWh) battery system, while the range-topping GT variant has long-range battery system as standard.

The 58 kWh battery system is paired to a 125 kW electric motor that powers the rear wheels while the AWD has a 173 kW electric motor powering the front and rear wheels.

The 77.4 kWh battery pack aka long-range battery pack, on the other hand, is paired to a 168 kW electric motor that powers the rear wheels, and a 239 kW electric that drives the front and rear wheels on the AWD model.

Performance-wise, the 58 kWh EV6 AWD makes 0-100 (0-62 mph) run in respectable 6.2 seconds while the 77.4 kWh EV6 AWD does it in 5.2 seconds. Meanwhile, the performance focused EV6 GT is drive forth by 430 kW dual motors with 740 Nm torque on the tap.

The AWD GT will wipe the century sprint in just 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 260 km/h (162 mph). The GT also benefits from electronic Limited Slip Differential (e-LSD).

Some other noteworthy details include wing-type roof spoiler, raise lower spoiler, smart regenerative braking system, 2,900 mm wheelbase that affords a cabin space comparable to many mid-size SUV, seat fabrics are made from materials crated using recycled plastics, 520L trunk space (or 1,300L with the second-row seats folded down) and a front trunk (aka Frunk) that as an additional 52L on the 2WD models or 20L for the AWD models.

The Kia EV6 is not listed in stateside yet, but its on Kia U.K. with a listed starting price of £40,895 (around US$56,264).
