This month marks the 100 years of Disney. For those who don’t know, Disney was founded on October 16, 1923, in The City of Angels. Anyhoo… LEGO is celebrating too and it is doing so by letting you have this very special gift-with-purchase set, the LEGO Mini Steamboat Willie (40659).
The LEGO Mini Steamboat Willie (40659) is kind of like a shrunk-down, simplified version of the LEGO Ideas Steamboat Willie set we saw a few years ago. But if you ask me, the GWP set is more accurate because it being a small set with 424 pieces, has less definition we is more accurate to the original black-and-white cartoon.
Like a larger, adult collectible set, the set’s steamboat and the Mickey Mouse minifigure are painstakingly recreated in black and white bricks to mirror the original design. The steamboat’s paddle wheel is fully functional, animating the steam pipes’ motion.
When completed, the steamboat measures over 5 in. (13 cm) high, 7 in. (20 cm) long and 4 in. (11 cm).
The LEGO Mini Steamboat Willie (40659) is a gift for you with LEGO | Disney purchases of US$100 or more. As with any GWP, there is a period when it is available. It is not clear when this will cease, so you’d act on it fast if you want one. Or you could scour around eBay for anyone’s selling it.
