The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph pays homage to its rich history and the legacy of motorsports – again. But this time, this timepiece is presented in gold, as a nod to a game-changing concept started by Jack Heuer who gifted gold timepieces to racing drivers, forging a strong connection between TAG Heuer and motorsports. These watches became more than rewards; they were companions in the pursuit of victory, adorning the wrists of legendary drivers like Ronnie Peterson and Niki Lauda.
However, this is no replica of Ronnie or Niki’s gold TAG Heuer timepieces. This is a vintage-inspired Carrera Chronograph, with its 18K 3N yellow gold case, classic design, and modern flair, representing the culmination of the 60th-anniversary celebration.
It features a black and gold dial for improved legibility and a groundbreaking Glassbox design. When viewed in cross-section, the watch’s shape combines fluid curves from the domed sapphire crystal with angularity from the taut case and bold lugs.
And then there’s the gracefully curved flange that not only amplifies the visibility but also simplifies the reading of the 60-second/minute scale that encircles the edge of the dial.
Powered by the in-house chronograph movement Heuer 02, it offers an 80-hour power reserve. The watch comes with a black perforated calfskin leather strap, echoing its racing heritage.
As TAG Heuer celebrates 60 years of Carrera, this chronograph symbolizes achievement, inspiring wearers to embrace their journey of success. It’s not just a watch; it’s a symbol of challenge and determination in motorsports.
Notwithstanding the high price it commands, the US$21,500-a-pop TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph luxury timepiece appeared to be sold out online. It is unclear if it is still available offline. You may find out yourself by booking an appointment with TAG Heuer on the product page.
