Come to think of it… I don’t recall the characters in Neon Genesis Evangelion doing any writing ever. If they did, I already imagine they’d be using the Evangelion 30th Anniversary Gravity.Mobius Unit-01 Fountain Pen & Ballpoint Pen set from Japan’s high-end writing instruments maker Dareworks.

Released in celebration of the anime franchise’s 30th anniversary, this highly limited and highly collectible writing instrument set features an interchangeable jacket that is reminiscent of the cockpit/entry plug of the Eva Unit-01. The set is not two pens [JP], technically. It is one pen with a ballpoint pen part that lets you swap out the fountain pen to be used as a ballpoint pen.
As far as the fountain pen goes, it features an original nib in 24K plating, laser-engraved with the NERV logo, and the matte black body is printed with the Evangelion 30th anniversary logo alongside the serial number. The fountain pen further features a converter— a.k.a. a refillable ink reservoir—designed after the entry plug.
The star feature of this unique pen is, IMO, the interchangeable outer shell dubbed the “jacket.” Each jacket features painstakingly hand-painted details and is just 0.5 mm thin. The jacket attaches to the core—the pen—via magnets. Understanding that not every day you want the EVA Unit-01 look (and that it may be inappropriate for business settings), the set also includes a black matte jacket for times when you need to sign a billion-dollar contract.

The first 100 customers of this limited edition writing instrument will receive a special stand that props up the pen at an angle, making it an absolute desktop showpiece. The pedestal is also available to buy, according to Dareworks’ website.
Each Evangelion 30th Anniversary Gravity.Mobius Unit-01 Fountain Pen & Ballpoint Pen set also comes with beautiful, collectible packaging as well as a stainless steel owner’s card engraved with the serial number
The Evangelion 30th Anniversary Gravity.Mobius Unit-01 Fountain Pen & Ballpoint Pen set has a limited run of just 1,000 units worldwide, each commanding 28,600 yen [JP] (about US$185). The Gravity.Mobius dedicated pedestal is available to order too for 1,980 yen [JP] (about US$13). Both items are available for pre-order as we speak.
