Countless movies are made and released each year. Obviously, there’s no way we can feature them all here, so we can only pick what we find interesting or just plain cool. The upcoming Netflix animated feature film Ray Gunn, produced by Skydance Animation, embodies both qualities.
Seriously, this animation had me at hello. Neither Netflix nor Skydance Animation says much about the flick, but my first impression is that it has the vibe of classic detective noir, only set in a retro-futuristic city where The Jetsons meets The Fifth Element. If that makes any sense at all.
Here’s the gist of the animated feature film:

In Metropia, a gigantic city in an alternate future as seen from 1939, private eye Raymond Gunn (Sam Rockwell) is drawn into a case involving aliens, murder, and a multimedia star named Venus Nova (Scarlett Johansson).”
Brad Bird’s upcoming animated sci-fi noir feature gets a two-week theatrical window ahead of its platform debut. It will receive a select theatrical release on December 4, 2026, including limited 70 mm screenings. After that, it will be available on Netflix starting December 18, 2026.
