Acer Project DualPlay Mini Concept
Typing on a gaming handheld usually means putting your thumbs through another workout. Acer’s Project DualPlay Mini concept takes a different approach: its 8-inch screen flips and swivels to reveal a backlit physical keyboard, turning the handheld into a tiny laptop for games, emails, and whatever interrupts them.

A gaming handheld is great until you need to type something longer than your character’s name. Then you’re poking an on-screen keyboard and wondering if that email can wait. Acer’s Project DualPlay Mini has another suggestion: bring an actual keyboard, but keep it inside the same device.

Revealed at IFA 2026, the Predator concept is an 8-inch device with a flip-and-swivel design that converts between a gaming handheld and a mini laptop. Rotate the display into position, and a built-in backlit physical keyboard becomes available. Your thumbs can take a break from doing everyone else’s job.

Acer envisages laptop mode for first-person shooters and handheld mode for games better suited to console-style controls. When work intrudes, the same machine can serve as a mobile productivity device and connect to an external screen. Gaming and work sharing one device. The hardware details are brief. Project DualPlay Mini is powered by Intel, although Acer hasn’t named the processor. Cooling uses the Atlas 8’s dual-fan arrangement: one metal Predator AeroBlade fan and one plastic fan, with thinner blades on the concept’s metal fan. Acer hasn’t disclosed display resolution, memory, storage, battery capacity, dimensions, or weight.

There’s also a little detail for the observant: the back cover carries “Acer 50 since 1976” in Morse code to mark the company’s 50th anniversary. An anniversary badge you have to decode is certainly a choice.

Before you start clearing space in your bag, Project DualPlay Mini is a concept only. There’s no announced price or release date. Still, a handheld that opens into a tiny laptop has an obvious appeal: you could lose a match, answer an email, and return for another beating without changing devices.

A console-laptop hybrid is not new, though. GPD has been doing this the whole time. Its GPD WIN 4 is a similar device, but the screen slides up to reveal the keyboard instead.
