No. You are not seeing things; this isn’t the iPhone 5 or 5s. This is the much rumored 4-inch iPhone, officially dubbed iPhone SE. It shares the same 5/5s chassis design, but now updated with matte-chamfered edges, along with color-matched stainless steel Apple logo, and comes in four metallic finishes consistent with its two larger siblings. Naturally, introducing a new device with an old look is bound to draw some criticism, especially when it is coming from Apple. But on the get go, the Cupertino tech giant wants you to know that while the iPhone SE may have an ‘old new look’ it is “the most powerful phone with a four-inch display.”
Speaking of powerful, the SE is essentially the 6s/6s Plus, well almost, but in a smaller form factor and packs features like the 64-bit A9 chip with M9 motion coprocessor (the thing that makes handsfree Siri possible), 12-megapixel iSight camera with 1.22u pixels and True Tone flash, Live Photos, 4K videoing, “faster LTE and WiFi,” and of course, Touch ID with Apple Pay cos’ you may have a small device, but you can still spend your hard-earned dough through Apple Pay. With the four-inch device, it is clear that Apple is leaving no stone unturned – on contrary to its founding philosophy of making less varied products but with superior quality. I guess times have changed and old strategies and visions can turn out to be impractical to fans, markets and shareholders.
Anywho, in case you are wondering, the iPhone SE packs the same ppi at 326 as the iPhone 6s and so, display should be as brilliant as always, if not better, considering it is has almost the same resolution but in a small 4-inch panel. And oh, it has a pretty modest front-facing camera (otherwise known as FaceTime camera) with 1.2MP, though it does get 720p HD video recording and retina flash. Interested? Well, the good news is, you don’t have to wait too long cos’ it will be rolling out this month, priced at $399 and up. Folks in countries like Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK, US Virgin Islands and the US can pre-order the device starting March 24, 2016.
