The market is flooded with battery cases, so it shouldn’t raise any eyebrow with this one – except that this isn’t your ‘usual’ third party battery case; it is Apple’s first attempt in battery case, which bears consistency with the Cupertino tech giant’s design philosophy. While we are accustomed with hard cases, Apple’s iteration sports a soft elastomer hinge design to facilitate easy slipping on and off the case and has a soft-touch finish silicone exterior which should help to counter the slippery phone woe. We are not a fan of silicone though, because of its track record of being a dust magnet and so it remains to be seen if this case will have the same shortfall.
On the inside, the case gets a soft microfibre lining to keep the phone snuggly protected without scratching the device. Technical spec of the battery wasn’t published, but according to Apple online store, the Smart Battery Case offers up to 25 hours of talk time and up to 18 hours of web surfing over LTE. Like many battery cases, the phone and the case can be charged simultaneously. Being a product made by Apple for its own device, you can expect a closer software and hardware integration, and in this case, the intelligent battery status is viewable on the Lock screen, as well as the Notification Center – hence the lack of physical battery indicator on the case.
You can acquire Apple Smart Battery Case for iPhone 6/6s from Apple online store for $99.99, in a choice of black or white.
