Wouldn’t it be nice to have a mini PC with a top cover that is also a Qi wireless charger? That would help in decluttering a desktop, IMHO, and if you have been wishing for such a device, well then, your dream has just come true. Folks, meet the new ASUS Chromebox 5.
The new ASUS Chromebox 5 is the first Chromebox to feature an optional integrated 15-watt Qi-certified wireless charger for compatible devices.
Beyond this awesome feature, this reddot design award-winning Chromebox is powered by up to 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processor with up to 32 GB dual-channel DDR4 memory, up to 256 GB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD, and Intel Iris Xe graphics.
The ASUS Chromebox 5 may be small but it is loaded with connectivity that includes 1 Thunderbolt 4 port, 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, 2 HDMI ports, 1 DisplayPort 1.4, and 1 RJ45 port.
That’s just the back. Over at the front is has further 2 USB 3.2 Gene 2 ports, an audio jack (optional, combo mic/headphone jack), and a microSD card slot.
And not forgetting that there are also Bluetooth 5.2, WiFi 6E, and 2.5G Ethernet.
The device is fully capable of supporting up to four 4K displays (!).
The device promises automatic software and security updates to protect the system from viruses, malware, and other security issues, plus there is built-in Google Play support that offers access to thousands of Android apps.
While you may not tote around this little guy like a phone or tablet, it has been, believe it or not, tested through MIL-STD-810H to withstand extreme temperatures, and put through the high altitude test, humidity test, drop and shock test, as well as vibration test.
ASUS Chromebox 5 is made of post-consumer recycled plastics (PCR), featuring a durable scratch-resistant textured surface. In addition, ChromeOS devices like Chromebox 5 are designed to consume up to 45% less energy than comparable competitor devices. Rounding up the sustainability effort is FSC-certified packaging.
The availability and pricing of the new ASUS Chromebox 5 have not been announced yet. Meanwhile, you may learn more about the new ASUS Chromebox 5 HERE.
